T.J. would have been 17 on August 4th.  We observed his birthday by recalling the joy we knew with him for 16 & 1/2 years.  How very blessed we were!

Sadly, on the night of the 3rd, I received news that a friend's 7 year0old daughter's battle with Stage 4 stem cell glioma (brain tumor) is coming to an end, so I have been doing my best to support their family and friends at this terribly sad time.  This hit close to home for me because it was a brain tumor that took T.J. from us, and that is how the story of this little girl caught my attention, and how her mother and I became friends in March.  I hope that when her time comes to earn her wings, T.J. will be there to give her head bonks and purrs, and to sit by her side for a little while.

So, today, I celebrate T.J.'s birthday and his life with all of you here on the forum.

As T.J.'s time with us was drawing to an end, I learned about a woman who makes animal-themed ceramics.  Her name is Nina Lyman, and her web site is
Nina's Big Store.  One of her products is a line of cat vases, and for an additional fee, she will make a custom vase in the likeness of your own kitty.  I scrimped and saved enough money to finally place my order in June.  The vase arrived today and it is absolutely perfect in every way.  So now T.J. is really home with us, where he belongs.  I will use the vase to hold his ashes and whiskers. I can't tell you how much comfort this has brought to me.

Here he is.  T.J. in is little memorial garden in our back yard:

The piece stands about 12" tall, maybe 6" wide and about 3"deep.  There is an opening in the back that is about 8 or 9" deep, and just the right size for T.J.'s ashes to fit snugly inside it.
My heart is battered and bruised, but I will not let it break. It holds such precious cargo, I must protect it now. (Susie Squillions)

Wow, what an absolutely beautiful vase!  I can certainly understand how thrilled you are with that.  About the verification code, that is truly amazing!  That has to be a real sign...the chances of that coming up would be astronomical.  What a smart guy TJ is.
Regarding the little girl, Faith, how heart-breaking.  I can't imagine what the parents must be going through.  I will certainly light a candle and say prayers for her and her family.

Such a beautiful, beautiful piece - and a nice peaceful spot too. And - I just went back to look at the picture and noticed the dragonflies on the right. If you'll recall I saw that green dragonfly the week after we lost Misty. So dragonflies again!

Dragonflies are the theme of our little memorial garden. Three dragonfly wind chimes hang right above the spot where I set the urn to photograph it.  The dragonflies on that stepping stone glow in the dark, so I can see them 24/7.  I love it!

Now my next mission begins...to save enough to have urns made for Bingo and Buddy too.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Karen!  I'm not even seeing the attachments of the pictures from yesterday.  Whatupwiddat?

Thank you all so much for your birthday wishes for T.J.  You just know he adores the attention.  I still can't get over how perfectly Nina captured T.J.'s spirit in the urn.  Tricia, you're right, I feel as if he really is back home now.   It was the first thought that entered my mind when I saw the vase. I have no doubt that he sat with Nina while she worked on his project, telling her when he was pleased with what her progress.  She e-mailed me on the first day she worked on him and asked me if he had a really strong  purr.  I replied that he did, and she told me that she felt a vibration in her studio that was almost like the tremor of an earthquake, but without the physical shaking.   I told her, "Yep.  That was my boy!  He had the best purr on record, and he set the vibration of our home."  ;-)  If any of you are on facebook, search for "Cats by Nina" and you will find her business page there.  If you're even the slightest bit tempted to purchase something from her, all I can say is that the photographs do not do them justice.  Whatever you get will be at least ten times better when you hold it in your hands.

On a very sad note, T.J. now has a beautiful new angel friend to sit with.  Faith died at 2:30 on Saturday afternoon.  She touched so many hearts and brought people together from all over the world, all following her story and praying for her.  Her funeral will be on Thursday, August 12th, my birthday.  I will do everything I can to make sure I can attend even if only during the  calling hours to let the family know how very deeply Faith's journey touched me.

It's odd...the reason Faith's story caught my attention when stories of other children are no less compelling is that she had a rare, inoperable brain cancer for which there is no chemo.  We lost T.J. to a brain tumor and  I was still in the throes of mourning T.J. when Faith's story came to my attention.  I can't tell you how many times I talked to T.J. about Faith and asked him to look after the little girl who was fighting the same thing he had fought for so long. When it became clear that Faith's time here was drawing to an end, I asked T.J,. to welcome her to her new eternal life and stay by her side.

Rest in peace, Faith.  July 27, 2003 ~ August 2, 2010.

Happy Birthday T.J.!  Pls keep sending your love back to your People for their love has not weakend, it has only grown stronger.

SusieS, thank you soooooooooo much for your response to my recent post regarding learning from Tuffy.

I am blessed to have found RainbowBridge, as it is the only place I have to express my love, grief and lessons from Tuffy.  How great to have a community of others who loved their friend with all they had.

Those who have never lost or lost and didn't "feel" their loss tend to think I have lost touch with reality!  That's why I post and reply to posts here. Here I can keep My Little Man Tuffy alive by giving away what I learn as the days pass.

My thoughts, love and prayers to you and yours

Dear Tricia,

Thank you so much for the kind message about Faith.  Her mom posted the most amazing entry in her Caring Bridge journal last night.  It sounds like Faith was visiting her all day yesterday and wanted her to get the message that they will always be together and there is nothing to worry about.  I mean, that little girl was sending signs loud and clear, left and right!  There were butterfly signs all day long both for Faith's mom and also for other friends, but the most amazing thing (to me) was this part:

I sat down tonight to print off pictures for the funeral and I picked up my phone for some reason that I cannot remember now and I have an Iphone so you can look at your text messages and see the beginning of the last message sent and the persons name who sent it to you. All the messages disappeared except one that said "I love you." And I started talking to Faith as if she was here and she started answering in my texts using messages that had been sent but only showing certain messages. I said I hurt so bad and the phone said "I am sorry I wish I could take away your pain." I said "How is heaven?" She said "It's cute." I said "Did you get to run?" She said "yes" And it went on and on and before she left she said "I got a lot to do and I love you" And then all the messages came back.

I just loved that journal entry last night.part of her journal last night.   She ended the entry by saying "Today is the first day of my new life without you..."  So touching, but such a positive thing for her to be looking forward so soon after such a devastating loss.
