Gertie
Hi, I am looking for advice. i have a 2 year old Lhasa. I noticed a bump under his hair on his face. I took him to the vet. She cut back the hair and discovered a mess. He had been to the groomer 10 days before. Nothing else changed in his diet or life. She is now treating him for a staph infection. He now has bumps all over his back. He has been on clavamox for 10 day and starting trowing up today. Any advice. I feel my vet does not know what she is doing. I am frantic. I had another Lhasa who was put to sleep 2 years ago. He was a puppy mill puppy. He was sick for the 9 years I had him. I spent over $20.000 trying to fix him. I have mentioned him here often. his name was Duncan. My new little guy is Ivan. I just can't go through this again. Has anyone else had this problem.

Thanks, Gertie.

I don't have any experience in this but if you are doubting your vet and have the means I would get a second opinion ASAP.

Thank you Don. Ivan has a vet appt. tomorrow. We are having a dreadful time for 3  months. I changed Vets and also saw a skin specialist. I was told it was staph. It all started after a visit to the groomer. Ivan has always had a beautiful coat, he now has patches where his hair fell out. He is such a joy, I am so upset for him. I appreciate you thinking of him at the candle service. I hope I get some good news soon.
Sending warm wishes to both you and Vera. I hope you are doing well.

Gertie.

Hello Gertie, Your poor boy Ivan must be very uncomfortable. I am sorry for his situation. I can only speak from an experience that I had with Staph and pass that along to you.
It seems very likely that your boy may have picked up this skin condition at the groomers. All it takes is some bacteria to enter the body through even the smallest cut. I had such an unpleasant experience years ago from mosquito bites. Turns out they became infected and I still have scars to this day from the staph.
I know that it is highly treatable if taken care of early. It sounds like you are being very proactive and I would definitely get a second opinion. Along with antibiotics there may also be a cream or lotion the vet can prescribe that would help a lot. Recovery should be 100 percent Gertie. It just may take a while for things to calm down and healing to take its course.
I don't know if this helps but I am happy that you are getting treatment for Ivan soon.  I really hope he starts to feel better soon!!..........My best to you...........Sincerely, Andrea

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it so much. Ivan has been on antibiotics since Sept. The infection had cleared, he just had lost his beautiful coat. But now it has started up again on the area where his new coat is growing back. We have done 2 skin scrapings came back as staph. I am going today to see another vet at the same practice, she is older I am hoping she can give me advice. I am also going to ask them to do a biopsy. So far we the bills are $1300. We have also changed his diet but in my heart I know it was the groomer. I went on her web site and read a review from a lady who said her dog came home after a grooming and had scabs on her back. That was one week after Ivan had been. I called the groomer but she will not take any blame.

Thank you again Andrea, I hope today to get some answers. Ivan is 2 years old, until this happened he was a happy healthy little guy. I am so stressed and feel so helpless.

Gertie keep advocating for Ivan. You do know what is wrong no matter what anyone says or denies. I hope you have a good Specialist, if not find another. I fired 2 Specialists until I found a brain, one whose statements are logical. I fired many a regular vet as well. You DO know best even more so than the vets. Keep all your records, you may be able to sue the groomer at a later date if you have factual proof. Keep up the fight Gertie, the internet is a great resource as well. Ivan needs your strength and will to fix him all up.
I support you in your fight.

Hello Gertie,
It really saddens me that your boy Ivan has to endure this. Your level of frustration is totally understandable. As Spiritdog said, you know Ivan the best. I really hope that you got some true answers and help for him today. I am really sorry for the poor soul. He doesn't deserve this and neither do you!
Don't give up, you have good instincts. Keep calm for your boy and follow what you feel is the best course of action. Please let me know how it goes......My thoughts are with you..........Sincerely, Andrea

Gertie, has anyone told you about Organic Coconut Oil (internal and external) and Omega 3's and probiotics. All of these help tremendously with skin issues. If the staph is under control, these remedies can certainly help with or without antibiotics also. Bless you for taking such good care of Ivan and wishes for continued healing for Ivan!
