Reading through this post, you can tell that Huckleberry is loved. I'm so sorry that he did not come home. I hope that the magic touch of time will help ease your pain.

Thank you everybody for your support and messages. There's still no sign of Huckleberry. We're dealing with his loss as well as can be expected. I still tear up when I think about him. Tommorrow morning will be two weeks since he went missing. Right now, I'm at my mom's house, 800 miles away. My wife is at home and taking care of Banjo and is there in case Huckleberry comes home. I've had this trip planned for a while, and my wife was supposed to go, but she didn't want to go, in case Huck comes back.

I think many of us here feel what you feel.  We're all still hopeful, though.  Please keep us posted, good or bad.  In addition to worrying about Huckleberry, I'm also worried about Away; I got home around 10:15 last night and he wasn't here.  He also wasn't here this morning for breakfast with Midget.  I wouldn't be terribly concerned, but he's been feeling a little listless the last couple of days.  Not trying to hijack your thread...just wanted to get that out while it's on my mind.  Damn cat :-/

Sending you both tons of hugs!

I'm sorry to hear about Away. I'll say a prayer that he comes home. I've always thought it was cruel to keep cats indoors but I wish our cats never went outside.

Don't worry about hijacking the thread. Maybe, this can be thread that people write about when cats are missing.

Please let us know when he comes home.

Talking about missing cats, as I mentioned on the previous posts that I personally had 2 cats missing in the past and one never came back. In addition, I also have had experience adopting a stray cat years ago. This cat kept coming to our house looking for food, and we started feeding him, and eventually he became ours. I knew that he was belonged to some family because he was neutered and well socialised with humans. The problem was that he didn't have any chip or collar on him, so we had no way to take him back to his owner. He ended up living with us for years and had a good life. You see, even if your cat hasn't/doesn't come back, it doesn't mean that he is in any harm. Since you don't know his fate, you can always imagine positively. I know it is hard, because he is not with you now. Just know that IT IS  possible that he is having some tuna feast on a family table 😉

100% spot-on that this occurs. We had one cat here in my neighborhood that was an outdoor cat and for some reason she split her time between 2 different households. The two families co-parented her. For some reason she just liked it that way.

When I was living in New Mexico each morning there was one cat that would visit us (and the colony of feral's and stray's) and he would have something to eat, socialize for a bit, maybe take a nap and then walk away to where, we had no idea. At least 1 to 2 blocks away. I tried to track him once but he went through neighbors yards via obvious shortcuts he would take. I am 100% positive he had a family and was just being social with us and pigging out a bit. Lol.

If "Huck" was ran off via another animal that evening, and he felt he had to go far in order to escape, it is quite possible he came across another (kind and loving) family and they are taking currently care of him. It happens all the time. Just something to consider.

There's still no sign of Hucleberry. It's been 18 days now. I still miss him alot but the pain is easing.

Has anyone heard from Just_Lost? I hope that Away came back.

I am sorry that Huckleberry has not returned. Since we don't know what happened, I'm going to envision him in a new and loving home with somebody that needs him more than you.

My friends live just outside a small town and they take in strays. Not long ago they took in a cat and he stayed for weeks, maybe months. Then one day he disappeared. They were heartbroken but many months later they found him living in another home. It happens.

Haven't heard about Away. Hopefully he returned safely.

Thanks Jan. Huckleberry is chipped. I'm still fearing that he got attacked by a bigger animal. A neighbor's cat is missing too. I wish we never let him out.

We seem to be a magnet for strays.  Poor cats...nobody wants them or their humans move and forget them (how do you forget your animal when you move?  Seriously.), so we take them in and feed them and love on them.

Thanks, Jan - that knucklehead Away showed up the same night I posted that he hadn't been home.  He used to spend a day or two at another house a street over from ours because he knew they'd feed him (you damn cat), but he hasn't done that for a while.  He seems to be feeling better and is back to being himself.

I'm still heartbroken over Huckleberry, and I grieve with you folks :(

Yippee! Away is safe. Love hearing some good news.

I too don't understand how people just move away and leave their cat behind. When I was a kid we moved with a cat many times. She hated the long car rides but she always settled.
