Many healing vibes.  gl in your efforts.

If I have one piece of advice - DO IT YOURSELF! read, learn, get 5th opinions, reach out to others.  Don't let any vet or specialist tell you how to treat your babies, especially if you feel more or less could be done.  Mostly I feel terrible that I didn't read up on his meds and he didn't eat well up to the end, prob because he was nauseous, even after several complaints the vet didn't recommend anything for almost a year and it the anti-vomit meds didn't go well, I felt like he suffered a year needlessly and I could have prevented it.
Next time I will try hollistic too.  Apparently slippery elm works for nausea no side effects.
Get records of every office visit so later you don't have to feel weird asking for them when you want a second opinion.

Couldn't agree more.  We got a Beagle puppy who developed chronic UTI's and our conventional Vet wanted to put her down because he couldn't do any more for her. I hunted on the web for a Holistic Vet and found one who not only cured her UTI's but also her terrible allergies.  He cleared her allergies for her entire 14 years.  People thought we were crazy but we had proof that it worked.  We lost her to a stroke and there was nothing to be done for that of course.  Here is the web site if anyone might be interested.  It sounds like voodoo, but hey, whatever works.  With animals you have NO psychological element.  His name is Dr Bert Brooks and here is the web site.  He is in Woodland CA, but you do not need to be local for him to help.
