Hammy, the first couple of days were sheer pain and sadness. I kept going for long walks, just trying to get away from the awful feeling of losing Jim. It's been a couple of weeks and it is still raw in some ways (got a letter from our local vet college letting us know, in very sympathetic language, that a donation had been made by my vet to the college in Jim's name and I spend the next 15 minutes sobbing), but it does lighten as the time goes by. You will have whole half hours where you are busy and can focus on other things. You won't see their face, and perhaps relieve the nightmare of their death, every single time you close your eyes. You will eat again and sleep again. One foot in front of the other, Hammy, and don't repress whatever you're feeling. You need to cry, cry. You need to get angry, get angry. As they say, the only way out is through. All the best to you.
